| Customer Reviews: Facebook Marketing November 20, 2008 Tami Brady (Calgary, Canada) 6 out of 17 found this review helpful
When many people think about Facebook, they tend to think of a social network for the younger generation. They assume that Facebook is just a glorified chatroom. Therefore, when doing social marketing, most businesses focus on MySpace and Linked In.
Facebook Marketing states that businesses that exclude Facebook in their social marketing are missing out on important opportunities. There re countless ways that individuals and companies can be noticed, without spamming. If done properly, social networking and even advertising on Facebook can provide a good deal of promotion for any business.
Facebook Marketing takes the entrepreneur through the process of setting up a Facebook account and then making the best use of the network's applications. It also gives information on how to advertise on Facebook. Throughout the book is advice on best practices and how to assure that you won't be accused of spamming.
Pretty poor, more like an instruction on how to use facebook November 24, 2009 J. Zhang (Birmigham UK) 9 out of 9 found this review helpful
A pretty poor book. Doesn't tell much about marketing at all. It seems like an instruction book on how to use facebook, and lets face it, most people who want to market on facebook already will have some basic knowledge, and this book does little to add to that knowledge.
Out of date December 4, 2009 Nikki Pilkington (France) 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
An OK book with some sounds marketing principals, but too out of date to be truly useful.
Laughably weak - has nothing to do with Marketing September 13, 2009 D. Rafferty (London, UK) 24 out of 24 found this review helpful
The blurb above says the author has written 112 books, and the blurb in this 2009 book says 108, I am surprised it is not higher as 'writing a book' seems to be mostly copying and pasting screenshots and rephrasing the help text from Facebook. To be fair he has also asked a few pundits to share 'secrets' with him. None of them seem to be that qualified to do so and mostly it is the same pundit. What is really disappointing about this book though, beyond the lack of content and poor style is that it is totally missold. The book spends nearly all its time taking the reader through making a page and other basic features of being a Facebook *user*. Little if any time is devoted to *marketing* in Facebook. Where are the case studies of organisations and campaigns that have been successful? Where is the analysis? Where are the trends? What should one bear in mind (beyond the chillingly obvious, 'don't spam')? There is a great book to be written about social media and marketing. This is so very not it.
